Little Business Man (LBM)

Manager Portaleco Technology Devolepment

The Portaleco Site covers mainly aspects of teamwork. However, teamwork must be complemented by leadership of team members but also of managers.

The Portaleco site has chosen Little Business Man (LBM), a young well educated manager with superior leadership skills, to introduce you to new management styles, which will take to levels of team cooperation you never experienced before. Dilbert’s boss is no longer the model of the new generation of managers. LBM has a chance to take that place right now.

Mr. LBM is leading a team of advanced software specialists working on highly personalized, self organizing and fully automated portals for people with low IQ. Leading analysts believe that this market segment is most promising with growth rates of more than 100% per annum.

It was quite a surprise when LBM was announced as manager of this typical egg head department, having little experience in this area, which is key to the growth of Portaleco. This was also a surprise for LBM but much more to his wife, who really knows him best. Key to his appointment was his superior soft skills and his totally chaotic biography, which demonstrates his ability to move quickly to new areas of no interest. He also could play a role in managing the user requirements of the addressed audience.

Mr. LBM holds a bachelor degree in Creative Writing from Southern Vermont College. He was the winner of the 21st Vermont Quilt festival. He was also working toward a master degree at the Black Forrest Cuckoo Clock Academy but had to drop out due to a serious attack of cuckoo allergy. Mr. LBM joined Portaleco in 1998 as a creative writer in the software documentation department.

We will try to follow LBM’s career with short monthly reports from his business life. Get smart, subscribe to the LBM news feed to get information faster than your colleague.

LBM in February - Brown Paper Bag Mardi Gras Party

Event: February 8th, Mardi Gras
Initially, LBM had planned to go to New Orleans for the 2006 parade. However, due to the rather weak financial results in 2005, LBM had to come up with a low cost team event, still suited to bring the team closer together. Initially LBM was thinking of handing out animal masks to team members. However, this was not possible because the 2006 budgets had not been assigned so early in the year. LBM also wanted his team to be the first team entering the annual Portaleco innovation contest. Here is his solution to both problems:

On Tuesday, February 8th, the whole team will wear mardi gras masks made from brown paper bags at the department meeting. Every team member can show his creativity at extremely low cost - a few pencils and a pair of scissors can do a perfect job. The photo shows LBM with his team with the first mask designs. LBM recommended replacing the “Darth Wader” mask by another one reflecting the spirit of his team in a more appropriate way. Once again LBM was very proud of his team.
